OBJECTIVES
- Equip participants with the techniques needed to successfully engage in a variety of print and broadcast interviews
- Provide a forum in which to analyze and help participants better understand the news gathering process
- Strengthen individual communications skills and build confidence in those skills

MEDIA TRAINING ELEMENTS
Pre-Training Data Form
A questionnaire distributed to all participants to gauge their level of experience, comfort, and the Issues they must address.
"Baseline" Interviews
Three minute stand-up Interviews requiring an immediate response allow staff to informally assess skill levels.
The Interview Process
A lively presentation, supported by slides and video, which discusses how to successfully prepare for and deal with press interviews. Includes adversary situations.

Interview Role-Play
On-camera Interviews with video playback and evaluation. Formats range from broadcast to print, depending on client need. All questions focus on the issues.

Message Development
Group discussions that analyze the Issues and generate the messages that must be communicated through the media.

Issues Videotape/Discussion
A pre-produced mock talk show focusing on the client company's Issues. Trainees view the tape and then develop key messages that must be communicated.
Understanding Media
A brief overview of the news gathering process and the requirements of specific media outlets.
Media Panels and Guests
Journalists address participants and answer questions about their needs.
