How to boost outbound quality in distribution to 99.95% for a 1st Tier Automotive Supplier

Hellmann operates two warehouse distribution centers for a global automotive 1st tier supplier of wiring harnesses and electronic parts. The distribution centers are located in Germany and Thailand.

Starting Situation

Facing increasing competition in the automotive industrial sector, our customer searched for a reliable logistics partner taking over the entire distribution services following the production. The goal was to improve logistics efficiency, reduce costs, and shorten lead times to the final customers.

»A detailed and precise planning of the implementation as well as a joint project team of specialists was the key factor for such a successful project!«

Solution

Hellmann was awarded the business in early 2011 and started setting up the first warehouse distribution center in Bad Bentheim, close to the Dutch border in Northern Germany. Today, Hellmann is shuttling the finished materials from the plant into the warehouse, storing them until the customer call-off and finally prepares the pick-up including customer specific labelling and packing for about 500 global customers. A joint implementation team, containing of specialists from the customer and Hellmann, sets the foundation for an extraordinary outbound quality beyond 99.95% from the first week of operation on.

Following the successful startup of the first warehouse and a trustful partnership, a second regional warehouse distribution center for Asia was built up some 180 km north-east of Bangkok in Thailand. Since December 2012, Hellmann is also carrying out the global warehouse distribution services for finished materials as well as the production supply for the local plant via this warehouse.
