Rahul Interview Journal

The automotive industry is currently facing major shifts from electrification to regionalized supply chains. What do you see as the biggest challenges for automotive logistics over the next few years?

Rahul Bhasin: The automotive industry is undergoing a fundamental transformation. One key challenge is the regionalization of manufacturing, as OEMs increasingly diversify supplier networks and move sourcing closer to production facilities. For example, Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution established a $4.3 billion battery cell manufacturing joint venture near Hyundai plant in Georgia, USA. While this improves resilience, it also creates more complex supply chains that require greater visibility and flexibility. “Build where you sell” is restructuring the supply chains.

At the same time, electrification is reshaping logistics requirements. Battery supply chains bring new challenges around dangerous goods handling, capacity management and supply security.

We are also operating in a more volatile environment shaped by geopolitical developments, trade shifts and changing customer demands. In addition, the rapid global expansion of Chinese OEMs is creating new trade flows and logistics requirements. For example, an increasing number of Asian OEMs are choosing to setup plants in Europe, closer to the demand. Supporting customers through these changes with agile, resilient and scalable solutions is a key focus for Hellmann.

What are customers expecting today from a logistics partner that goes beyond traditional transportation services?

Rahul Bhasin: Customers are looking for more than transportation. They expect logistics partners to provide end-to-end visibility, proactive communication and data-driven insights that help them anticipate and manage disruptions. At Hellmann, we offer full transparency regarding the freight through our real time cargo monitoring solutions called Smart Visibility available across sea, air, rail and road products, irrespective of whether it is FCL or LCL or even a single shipment!

There is also growing demand for integrated solutions that connect transportation, inventory management and supply chain design. Customers want partners who simplify complexity and help them operate more efficiently across global markets.

At the same time, resilience, flexibility and sustainability have become essential. Companies need logistics providers that can quickly adapt to changing market conditions while supporting their decarbonization goals. Our role is to help customers build supply chains that are not only efficient, but also future-ready. We have been working closely with our clients globally in the current volatile times offering pragmatic and resilient supply chain solutions. Our dedicated teams closely monitor the on-ground realities, make use of alternate gateways and stay customer focused ensuring the production lines are not impacted, while also being sensitive to sustainable solutions.

Looking five years ahead: What will define successful automotive logistics in the future?

Rahul Bhasin: Successful automotive logistics will be defined by adaptability. As technologies, mobility concepts and supply chains continue to evolve, logistics providers must be able to respond quickly and develop solutions that meet changing customer needs.

Technology, data and sustainability will play an even greater role in helping companies move from reactive supply chain management to proactive decision-making. At the same time, strong global networks and local expertise will remain critical for managing complexity and navigating market volatility.

This is where I see significant opportunities for Hellmann. By combining global reach, making use of AI technology, multimodal expertise and a strong customer focus, we are well positioned to help OEMs and suppliers build more resilient, efficient and sustainable supply chains for the future.

Thank you Rahul for your time.
