First 100 days in Mexico: A conversation with new Managing Director Markus Fellmann

Focus

After his first 100 days in the role, we sat down with Markus to discuss market opportunities, customer relationships, and his vision for the future.

Jenny Woelper: Hi Markus, how has the move from the UK to Mexico been on a personal level?

Markus Fellmann: The welcome has been fantastic. Some colleagues I already knew from previous roles, so in many ways it felt like coming home to the Americas. Mexico is an incredible country with amazing culture, food, climate, and energy. My family and I are very happy to be here!

Jenny Woelper: After your first 100 days in Mexico, what stands out most about the market opportunity here?

Markus Fellmann: Mexico is a highly dynamic and exciting market with strong momentum. Our Automotive vertical is already very successful, and we absolutely want to continue growing in that space. At the same time, there are also many more major opportunities across Industrial, Consumer Goods, Healthcare, and Fashion. Mexico offers growth from many directions, which makes it a very strategic market for Hellmann.

Jenny Woelper: Our core value at Hellmann is “Relationship matters.” How exactly have you seen that come to life in Mexico?

Markus Fellmann: You get a very strong sense of the meaning here. Mexico has a relationship-driven business culture where people value trust, connection, and spending time together. Customers and partners are open to meetings, whether in the office or over lunch or dinner. Those personal connections are important and align perfectly with our culture.

In logistics, long-term partnerships matter. Many of our customer relationships have lasted for years, and that level of trust helps us grow together.

Jenny Woelper: Customer centricity is a major focus across the industry where many players look to leave their mark. How do you and the team in Mexico ensure excellent customer experience?

Markus Fellmann: What impressed me in these first months is how close our teams already are to customers. Many relationships are long-standing, and that creates a deep understanding of their business needs.

We want to continue that closeness while growing further. One strong example is that many customers trust us across multiple services: Airfreight, Seafreight, Roadfreight, and additional supply chain solutions. That level of trust is something we value greatly.

Jenny Woelper: Mexico plays an important role in nearshoring and North American trade. How do you see Hellmann’s role evolving in this particular space?

Markus Fellmann: Mexico is uniquely positioned: It has a large and growing population, a strong industrial base, and proximity to the United States, Canada, Middle & South America. Many companies continue to look at Mexico as a strategic manufacturing and distribution hub. Hellmann supports that through cross-border transport, airfreight, ocean freight, and integrated logistics solutions.
We see strong long-term potential in helping customers navigate this transformation.

Jenny Woelper: What does success look like for Hellmann Mexico over the next three years?

Markus Fellmann: For me, success has two pillars: First, continuing to grow with our existing customers while retaining the talented people who make this organization strong.

Second, winning new business and increasing market share in our strategic verticals.

We also see strong opportunities to further grow in exports, helping diversify beyond imports and cross-border flows. And the timing is right. We have a great reputation, a strong network, and an excellent team.

Jenny Woelper: Thank you for your time, Markus.
