“Our team brings decades of experience in international freight forwarding”
Ireland has become one of Europe’s most dynamic logistics markets. With strong trade links to both Europe and North America and a thriving pharmaceutical sector, the country plays an important role in global supply chains. To strengthen its presence in this market, Hellmann established its own national company in Ireland in 2023.
Based near Dublin, the local team supports customers with Airfreight and Seafreight, customs brokerage and tailored logistics solutions. With a strong focus on customer service and industry expertise, Hellmann Ireland continues to expand its capabilities while building close relationships with customers and partners.
In this interview, Niamh Savage, General Manager Ireland, shares insights into the team behind Hellmann Ireland, the services currently in demand and the opportunities the Irish logistics market offers.
Hellmann established its own national company in Ireland in 2023. How has the business developed since then?
Since launching the Irish entity, the focus has been on building a strong local team and establishing Hellmann as a reliable partner for international logistics in the market. Ireland has a very dynamic trade environment, particularly in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, healthcare and consumer goods. Being part of the global Hellmann network allows us to connect local customers with international markets while offering the personal service that customers value in Ireland.
Could you introduce the Hellmann Ireland team and explain how your expertise supports customers in the Irish market?
Our team combines many years of experience across different areas of freight forwarding. Several colleagues have previously worked with global logistics providers and bring deep expertise in both import and export operations.
Within the team we cover Airfreight and Seafreight exports, imports, pricing, and compliance and tender management. This allows us to manage shipments end-to-end while maintaining close communication with customers. Overall, the team brings decades of combined experience in international freight forwarding, which is a strong advantage when supporting customers with complex logistics requirements.
Ireland plays an important role in international trade. Which airports and ports are most relevant for your operations?
Ireland benefits from strong connectivity through several key airports and ports. For Airfreight, Dublin Airport is the primary hub, supported by Shannon and Cork airports, which provide important connections to both European and transatlantic routes.
On the Seafreight side, Dublin Port, the Port of Cork and Shannon Foynes are important gateways for imports and exports. These locations connect Ireland efficiently with major global shipping routes and allow us to provide flexible logistics solutions for our customers.
Which logistics services currently form the core of Hellmann Ireland’s offering?
Our core services focus on Airfreight, Seafreight and Customs Brokerage, supported by Road transport solutions where needed. Customs expertise has become increasingly important for companies trading internationally, and we support customers with compliant and efficient customs processes.
Through Hellmann’s global network we are able to offer true end-to-end logistics solutions, connecting Irish customers with international markets while maintaining transparency and reliability throughout the supply chain.
Ireland is one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical production locations. How does Hellmann Ireland support this sector?
The pharmaceutical industry plays a very significant role in Ireland’s economy, and logistics providers must meet very high standards when handling these shipments. At Hellmann Ireland we support healthcare and pharmaceutical customers with reliable transport solutions and processes that meet strict regulatory requirements.
Our operations are aligned with internationally recognised standards such as GDP, ISO and IATA, ensuring quality, compliance and secure handling for sensitive shipments.
Customer service is often mentioned as a key strength of your team. What does excellent customer service mean in practice?
For us, customer service means being accessible, responsive and solution-oriented. We work closely with our customers to understand their specific requirements and provide tailored logistics solutions rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
Maintaining strong relationships with our customers and partners is extremely important. Many customers appreciate the direct contact and quick response times our team provides.
Which industry events will Hellmann Ireland be attending this year?
Participating in industry events is an important way for us to stay connected with the logistics and export community in Ireland. This year we will be attending several events including the Irish Exporters Association 75th celebration lunch in Dublin, the National Manufacturing and Supply Chain Conference and Exhibition, the MedTech Exhibition in Galway, and the Future in Pharmaceuticals event. We will also participate in Insight 2026 in Dublin and attend the Irish Exporters Association awards.
I’m looking forward to meeting both familiar and new faces from across the industry at these events.
Looking ahead, what are your priorities for Hellmann Ireland?
Our focus is on continuing to grow the business while maintaining the high level of service our customers expect. We want to further strengthen our position in key sectors such as pharmaceuticals and healthcare while expanding our service capabilities and building strong partnerships across the market.
Ireland offers significant opportunities for logistics providers, and we look forward to continuing to develop our presence as part of the global Hellmann network.
Thank you Niamh for your time.
