World Ocean Day 2025: What Connects Us, Deserves Protection

Sustainability

As a global logistics provider, we are not only connected by the sea. We are also responsible for how we treat it. That’s why this year’s World Ocean Day wasn’t just a date in our calendar, but an opportunity for real engagement across the Hellmann network.

Teams from all regions came together to demonstrate what collective commitment can look like: local actions with global meaning. From cleanups and restoration to education and awareness campaigns, the initiatives shared one clear goal - contributing to healthier oceans for current and future generations.

Cleanups and Waste Removal
Teams in Thailand, Austria, the US, Peru, China, Brazil, Canada, the UAE, and Germany organized cleanup activities to remove litter from beaches, parks, and waterways, helping to restore local environments.

Ecosystem Restoration
In Vietnam, Cambodia, and Indonesia, efforts focused on direct restoration—such as tree planting, mangrove reforestation, and coral reef transplantation—to support long-term ecological resilience.

Promoting Everyday Sustainability
In Lithuania, Latvia, and Kazakhstan, employees promoted sustainable habits, including clothing donations and creative recycling initiatives.

Driving Awareness Beyond the Shoreline
In parallel, the Global Seafreight Sustainability team launched a four-week internal campaign to mark World Ocean Day. Through educational content, real-life stories, and practical insights, the initiative helped highlight the role of oceans in our industry and the importance of protecting them— reinforcing our company-wide sustainability strategy.

As Jacqueline Kupczyk, Manager Strategic Product Development Seafreight, explains:

“World Ocean Day is a powerful reminder of how closely our industry is tied to the health of the oceans. At Hellmann Seafreight, we see sustainability not as a standalone effort, but as part of our strategic development. By working with responsible carriers, using Sustainable Marine Fuels, and optimizing routes, we’re continuously working to reduce the environmental footprint of our services - while raising awareness across our teams and customer base.”

From Local Action to Long-Term Responsibility
At Hellmann, World Ocean Day is more than a symbolic date - it reflects the mindset we bring to our work every day. Sustainability is not an add-on; it is embedded in how we operate across the entire supply chain. In line with our Hellmann Promise, we actively shape the future every day:
For the better. Together.
