German Delegation Strengthens Economic Relations in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan

News

The German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) and the Delegation of German Business (AHK) in Central Asia organized this trip. The delegation consisted of executives from chambers of commerce and industry, as well as high-ranking representatives from companies and public institutions. Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, represented by Dieter Mauritz, was an official member of this delegation.

On the travel itinerary were the cities of Astana, Almaty, Tashkent, and Samarkand. Participants held discussions with high-level government representatives, association representatives, and visited local businesses. In Almaty and Tashkent, a 'German Business Day' was organized on September 12th and 14th, respectively, which was very well attended by the local business community.

Delegation participants had the opportunity to meet with local companies and interest groups. Volker Treier emphasized the importance of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan for diversifying the German economy ahead of the trip. These countries offer opportunities in the Green Economy, raw materials extraction, heavy industry, and logistics. The personal contact on-site was intended to initiate new projects and expand existing partnerships.

Trade relations between Germany and Kazakhstan recovered after previous declines. In the first half of 2022, German imports from Kazakhstan increased by 93 percent to 3.17 billion euros, and exports increased by 45 percent to 948 million euros. German imports and exports to Uzbekistan also saw significant growth in the first half of 2022. The German delegation's trip underscored the increasing interest of German companies in the region. Central Asia offers favorable production conditions, a stable market, and well-trained professionals that German companies are eager to engage with.

Hellmann Worldwide Logistics has been present in Kazakhstan with two offices since 2015 and in Uzbekistan with one office since 2019. Transport to these regions is handled by road (FTL, partial loads, and groupage), rail, seafreight, and airfreight.

Due to the current geopolitical situation, the so-called 'Southern Route,' or 'Middle Corridor,' has gained increasing importance. The routing goes through Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and then by ferry across the Caspian Sea to Kazakhstan or Turkmenistan. The necessary infrastructure for transfers across the Caspian Sea has been limited until now. This is currently a significant logistical challenge that we successfully overcome with our experienced teams.
